What You Should Know About Treating a Curved Penis

It is estimated that about 20% of men are born with a curved penis. Although this is not alarming as it is normal, some men suffer from Peyronie’s disease. This is scar tissue that makes your penis bend during an erection. As you know, an erection occurs when chambers of the penis get filled with blood. However, if the scar occurs at the top of your penis, it will make the penis curve. On the other hand, if it occurs on the bottom of your penis, it will curve down. You should also note that the scar tissue can make the penis dented and shorter.

There is no known cause of Peyronie’s disease. In fact, most doctors believe that scarring can be caused by a minor injury when having sex. You may be surprised that most men with this condition do not remember having any given injury. Recent studies have shown that older men are more likely to get Peyronie’s disease than younger ones. Also, genetics have a role to play.

Symptoms

issue

If you suffer from Peyronie’s disease, you may have a hard lump below the skin of the penis where it starts to curve. In most cases, the scar tissue is quite deep and difficult to feel. You should note that scar tissue varies in size from small to large and it can be available in different spots. If the scar tissue goes around your penis, it can make it short.

Other than the curve, the other common symptom of this disease is lack of firmness. As a result, you might have challenges keeping an erection. The doctor can suggest treatment for the curve, particularly if it makes it difficult to enjoy sex. Painful erection is another symptom of Peyronie’s disease. The pain is caused by inflammation due to the injury and it may last several months. When the scar hardens, the injury heals.

Treatment

When you seek treatment for Peyronie’s disease, the doctor will ask you if you have had any injuries and the symptoms you experience. Also, the doctor will examine your penis. You can be treated by being injected with drugs into your penis to check the angle of erection. Sometimes, the doctor can request you to take a photo of your penile erection. An ultrasound test on the penis can also be done to reveal the extent of the scar tissue.
